Extensions are available to the TYPO3 developer community, including forums, calendars, guest books, sitemaps, banner systems, email masks, surveys, ratings, FAQs, glossaries, news and online stores, ...and much more. There are currently over 4,700 extensions available.

The TYPO3 core architecture is designed to handle an unlimited number of independent websites within the same installation (!). Corporate solutions with several internet, intranet, extranet and micro sites can all be run in one and the same system. The design and structure can be identical or completely different. Labor-intensive processes such as the creation of menus and image scaling only have to be carried out once thanks to TYPO3's caching capabilities. The content is then only served from the internal cache. This saves resources and enables the high-performance delivery of large websites with thousands of pages and high user access numbers.

The index search engine searches TYPO3 pages and external media files (TXT, HTML, MS WORD and PDF) - using a similar technique to search services. The search can be limited to parts of the website and results can be displayed accordingly using intelligent relevance ranking.

Graphic elements such as menus, banners or headings are generated automatically: foreground and background layers, typography, drop shadows, alpha channel masking, the use of TrueType fonts (typefaces) and much more are possible. Different language versions can be inserted and managed on the same page without having to create a separate page branch. In this way, a website can be presented multilingually on the web.

The flexible structure of TYPO3 is based on open standards, i.e. PHP5, the most popular of all scripting languages, and MySQL as the database.
