TYPO3 v12 LTS
More modern, more intuitive & more powerful
The latest addition to the TYPO3 universe is available for download since 25.04.2023!
216 new features from over 140 developers result in an exciting release that the TYPO3 community has been waiting for since the end of November 2021.
As in the previous TYPO3 LTS versions, the abbreviation stands for Long Term Support and thus three years of free support. In addition, a further three years of support can be booked for a fee via the ELTS program of TYPO3 GmbH. The extended support period for TYPO3 v12 LTS is therefore until the end of April 2029.
Of course, all functions of the 12 versions have once again been combined into a particularly stable LTS release. Below we have summarized the most important innovations and features of TYPO3 v12 LTS.
TYPO3 backend maintenance made easy
The popular and probably the most used module of TYPO3, the TYPO3 page module, has received a lot of love in version 12 of TYPO3. It is now significantly more modern and tidier and paves the way for barrier-free operation in the TYPO3 backend.
File management is made easier with a tile view and a drag-and-drop function.
The live search offers a simplified search in the TYPO3 backend, as a direct answer is given when the search query is first typed in. In addition, the new CKEditor, in the new 5 version, allows content maintenance without the use of iFrames.
A fallback chain can be configured for multilingual websites. If a translation of an entire page or module is missing, TYPO3 automatically falls back on existing content in another defined (fallback) language. In addition, new pages for translations can be created with just one click. For languages such as Arabic, the user interface can be switched from right to left to make working easier.

TYPO3 Reactions
Integration in TYPO3 on a new level
Synchronize all systems in real time
A wide variety of applications are required in a wide variety of industries in order to map their business processes. Different systems are therefore required to exchange data and communicate with each other. Webhooks, real-time notifications when an event is triggered, are primarily used for this purpose.
TYPO3 has released a new backend module that converts incoming & outgoing webhooks as"reactions".
Simply explained: If something has changed in TYPO3, an externally connected third-party system is notified directly and thus the systems (TYPO3 & connected system) remain in real-time synchronization as well as vice versa. Complex solutions for integrating third-party systems are significantly simplified - without having to write PHP code yourself. For example, external systems can create new content in TYPO3 or TYPO3 can send a signal to a chat when a certain action is triggered.
The latest TYPO3 release is available for
Stability, security & better usability
With the latest TYPO3 v12 LTS version, the main focus is on increased security, faster performance and intuitive working. PHP 8.1 is set as the minimum requirement, but the latest PHP version 8.2 is now also supported. Both PHP versions deliver better & faster performance. The Content Security Policies (CSP) backend tool helps to close security gaps by detecting CSP violations in the frontend and backend and offering solutions to fix the problem. This additional security module aims to prevent certain attacks such as cross-site scripting & data injection . For detailed information on CSP click here.
Effective TYPO3 backend - also for developers
Not only authors get their money's worth with the new backend, there are also some new features for developers. The backend users are easier to manage and the editing of the TypoScript and the Page TSconfig is combined in the backend under Site Management. Which the TYPO3 Core Team has also given a new, robust and fast TypoScript syntax parser.

Hidden strengths for greater efficiency
The aforementioned webhooks use a message bus and a message queue - based on the Symfony Messenager - to make communication faster and leaner.
In addition, the queue system allows comprehensive and complex tasks to run independently of each other using an asynchronous mode.
Even more hidden Superpowers at a glance
- Doctrine DBAL Version 3
- Several new TCA types (Table Configuration Array)
- "Magic functions" as an intelligent part of the Extbase framework (with some disadvantages) are supplemented by a few new methods and coexist for the time being. These newer methods allow additional comparisons (constraints) and improve the work in the long run, in contrast to the disadvantageous old methods: dBy(), findOneBy() and count()
All system requirements for TYPO3 v12 LTS
- MySQL version 8.0 or higher
- MariaDB version 10.3 or higher
- PostgreSQL version 10.0 or higher
- SQLite version 3.8.3 or higher
Maintenance and support for TYPO3 v12 LTS
As an LTS release (Long-Term Support), TYPO3 v12 LTS receives bug fixes for 1.5 years from the release date. Thereafter, free security updates will be provided for a further 1.5 years. This results in a total support period of 3 years.
In addition to the 3 years of free support and maintenance, TYPO3 GmbH offers extended long-term support(ELTS) for up to three further years. This means that the ELTS version of TYPO3 v12 will be supported until April 2029. This means up to six years of browser compatibility, security fixes and compliance with IT security laws for your Enterprise CMS.
