Magento 2.2 extensions, modules and add-ons
Magento 2 already comes with a solid basic set of functions for operating an online store in its basic installation.
If you also want to expand your online store, add functions or modules or even implement completely different, new applications, you can currently (as of 05/2019) access around 3,500 extensions via the Magento Marketplace.
Almost 8,000 additional extensions and developments are also available free of charge on the code hosting platform Github.
What's new in Magento 2.2
This version of Magento includes the first third-party extension that bundles with Magento Commerce - Magento Social. This extension establishes a connection between your store and your Facebook business account and creates a page with products from your catalog. When customers click on a product, they are redirected to the corresponding product page in your Magento store.
Merchants can now use dotmailer to create their own transactional email templates. Magento's shipping features have also been enhanced.
Security optimizations
General security improvements
This release contains improvements to optimize the security of your Magento software. While there are no confirmed attacks related to these issues to date, certain vulnerabilities can potentially be exploited to access customer information or take over administrator sessions. We recommend that you update your existing Magento software to the latest version as soon as possible.
- Serialize/unserialize has been removed from most code to improve protection against remote code execution attacks.
- Improved protection of code where the use of object serialization or unserialization was unavoidable.
- In addition, the use of output escaping to protect against attacks has been strengthened.
- Multiple switching of store views no longer leads to an error in the storefront.
- Significant improvements to platform security, increasing protection against future attacks.
Bug fixes for security, core code and functions
Fixed issues customers were experiencing when upgrading to Magento 2.2.4 in installations spanning multiple sites. For Magento multi-store installations, the store view-specific values from the store configuration settings were not used if these settings differed from the global default configuration settings. Instead, Magento used the default configuration for all store views.
With this release of Magento are thousands of new fixes to the core code and over several hundred security improvements. It includes the resolution of hundreds of GitHub issues by community contributors. Click here to see the bug fixes in the Magento 2.2 release notes.
